MBABANE:Major General Collen Lasco refunded soldiers their two hundred Rands (R200.00) each, the money was forcefully taken from the soldiers under the Royal Close Protection Unit (RCPU) as contributions for Army Commander Moses Mashikilisane Fakudze’s “litiya la-Commander”.
But after this Swaziland News reported that, some soldiers were refusing to contribute, some Commanding Officers including Major General Lasco refunded the soldiers who had already contributed.
The Royal Guards based at Nkoyoyo Palace were refunded last week amid tension within the Umbutfo Eswatini Defense Force (UEDF) triggered by rampant corruption linking the Army Commander.
“We were refunded last week the R200.00 each we contributed,” said one of the soldiers.
Army Spokesperson Major Sandile Gwebu had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
But Army Commander Moses Mashikilisane Fakudze has been forcing soldiers to contribute money to be presented to him as a gift when visiting the various Army Baracks, the money is referenced as “litiya la-Commander”.
